Articles

Number of articles (biblioData type="T" in the NIKH XML) per edition, split into dated articles and undated front matter, appendices and treatises.

414,50133 editions

Key point

NIKH publishes no official article count; this table fills that gap. Quote counts from here, but say whether front matter and treatises are included (Sejong: 32,281 in all, 30,948 dated). The Gojong and Sunjong records are KOGL Type 4, so only counts were taken; no titles or text are published.

Formula: Count of type="T" elements; dated = those carrying a CE date (dateOccured type="서기").
How to read it: Sejong, Seongjong, Jungjong and Yeongjo exceed 30,000 articles; Injong and Jeongjong stay under 1,000. NIKH publishes no official article count, so this table stands in for one.
Caveats: An 'article' is a unit cut by modern editors and its length varies by edition (see article length). Long undated treatises in the Sejong records count as one each.
External check: Checked against Bak & Oh (2015) using this table's dated articles (numeric year, month and day; the second draft for Gwanghaegun, as in the paper): 347,641 vs 347,926, a difference of 285 (0.08%); 20 of 25 reigns agree within 10. Larger gaps: Taejo −136 (front matter), Sejong −21, Sejo −26, Seonjo −33, Jeongjo −11.

Agrees with an independent 2026-09 index (built with separate code) on articles and characters for all 30 editions; zero residual character-reference codes in the text.

All 33 editions; muted color marks revised, supplemented, supplement-and-corrections and second-draft editions.

By year, principal editions. Note the trough around the Imjin War (1592–) and the decline after Jeongjo.
