Excerpt share
Share of work performances that give only part of a work (a movement, overture, aria …) rather than the whole (new in 1.1).
- Formula
- 1 − complete performances / work performances. A 'complete performance' is one where none of the work's entries on that program names a movement or part — a proxy from the record, not a verified complete performance.
- How to read it
- Decade medians over completed seasons: 42% in the 1840s and 43% in the 1850s, down to 15% in the 1990s, 23% in the 2020s. By composer: Smetana 94%, Rossini 91%, Wagner 86% — Wagner is 2nd by work performances but 27th by complete performances. Bruckner and Webern 2–3%.
- Caveats
- Depends on the archive's movement field. An old program that listed one concerto movement without marking it counts as complete. The movement field is the only information separating staged operas from orchestral excerpts. 73 program–work pairs (88 weighted by concerts) have a part number but no movement and so count as complete; 105 pairs mix unmarked and excerpt entries and so count as excerpts. Arrangements that the archive files under a different work number (e.g. arrangements of the Prize Song from Die Meistersinger) are counted separately.
